James G - the RPM version in Fedora 11 is already 5.10.91.9.3 and has been for some time. Not sure how manually installing it would make any difference, and I have tested it with WPA (use it daily) and it works just fine.

For those having problems connecting to WPA protected networks try manually installing the 5.10.91.9.3 driver, it fixed it for me in Fedora 11 and Ubuntu 9.04

OK this is weird. It worked great for me the first time but I had to reinstall Fedora because of a video driver mishap. Now when I follow the steps above everything seems to install fine but the computer still doesn't show any wifi card. Any ideas?

Hi, I installed the package from the rpmfusion repository but it doesn't work. I tried to create /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-wl-alias.conf with "alias wlan0 wl" but it doesn't work.
What can I do now? =/
thanks

Holw cow.... finally! Thank you soooo much for this post! After several hours of trying so many different things suggested by other people, this is the only one that worked (after I rebooted, it worked perfectly). I also had the problem where the device wasn't even listed, but this did the trick by adding it and making it work! Thanks so much, again!

Hello Chris

After the tutorial, my wireless works fine but I can not connect to WPA secured network. On the other hand, I can connect to WEP network without problem. Is there a way to solve this issue?

over the weekend, I reinstalled the software. So the wireless does connect. But there are still some problems:

1. I do not see the network connections list - I seee eth0 for wired connection, but no eth1 or something for wireless connection.

2. The speed of wireless connection is extremely slow. In windows my wireless speed is fine - I can get 150kb/sec or more for downloads. But in Linux, I am consistently getting just about 20 - 30kb/sec. So the downloads on linux are extremely slow.

Any help is appreciated. I have FC10 installed and update to latest kernel and other packages.

my wireless card is BCM4322

Thanks

i have HPdv6-1030, broadcom bcm4322 card.

After installing FC10, the wireless card was not seen in the devices.
I followed the steps outlined. Everything ran without errors.

I did the reboot and now the wireless card is in the list of hardware devices.
But it is not active. I cannot activate it as it is not in the network manager list for activations.

I would appreciate any help in what to do next.

Thanks

If something does not work, there's also one more thing.

I've got Dell Vostro 1500. I installed driver packages... does not work. I dig on my system and what discovered:
New wl driver conflicts with ssb driver (it's even on its blacklist). BUT - ssb is needed for b44 driver, currently in use by my WIRED connection.

What I did: it occurrs (for now at least :) ) that everything works if the wl driver is loaded before ssb driver (I think it's because ssb driver wants to also manage my wireless card and uses some werid driver instead of wl). So I created a file in modprobe.d named ssb-and-wl
Contents:

install ssb /sbin/modprobe wl; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ssb;

In short, it ensures that IF the ssb driver is loaded, wl driver is also loaded and loaded before.
It might be not a beautiful solution, but... hey, it worked! :)

FYI, I just updated to kernel 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64 and the wireless stopped working. Reverting back to 2.6.27.15-170.2.24.fc10.x86_64 fixed it.

@Simon Lewis - either just reboot (it should load the module automatically on next boot) or issue the modprobe command as root and not as a standard user.
